The Third Element

This album cover was based on the idea of creating a graphic object using only the artist and album names as a starting point. Its final form is the result of tribal and astral inspiration, linked to spirituality and a religious approach to the same, through iconography.

Poncho

"Poncho" emerges through a critical, ironic and experimental position to subvert the perception of the designer as a superhero. Its A5 monovolume format contrasts with the idea of the heavy desk design magazine. This is a portable, easy-to-handle publication, designed to be explored without limitations. Its typographic compositions and rotating texts invite the reader to create their own reading experience, promoting a more spontaneous interpretation of the content. Petersburg Tales

This is a book containing popular and somewhat fanciful tales by the Russian-Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol. It is a book that I personally enjoyed a lot and so I decided to edit it, on the occasion of the Publishing Design course, to give it a visual and sensorial aspect that reflected its stories. Each tale has its own graphic identity but, jumping from one tale to the next, its pagination remains cohesive and familiar. Laser printing on recycled paper, bound with Singer stitching, charcoal drawings on tracing paper.

Decode

"Decode" explores current issues of post-digital, hacktivism, data security or cyber laws originated by Cyberculture. The aim of this issue is to raise discussions, present arguments, information and examples taken from different areas of Cyberculture so that readers can freely and spontaneously decide the pros and cons of each topic. This project consists of the physical edition and the website (desktop and mobile) where readers see not only the topics of the next issues, but also have a glimpse of the current issue. https://site-decode-pa-dc.webflow.io/#go-deep

InPulse

In connection with the project "Modernism > Postmodernism", it was decided to explore a little about the artists who revolutionized graphic design in the Punk era. InPulse, a periodical magazine, talks about Barney Bubbles as a reference for several younger graphic designers who lived their youth in this time of cultural change. Two of them are discussed here: Malcolm Garrett and Peter Saville, essential names in British graphic design. The editorial publication aims to reflect the punk aesthetic in a clear way while maintaining irreverence, especially in terms of typography and image editing. Collaboration with the greats André Coelho and Gonçalo Marques.

Clarity

Typography should be a utilitarian rather than an ornamental communication tool, and should therefore be simple and clear. Jan Tschichold argued that the text is clearer the fewer obstacles to understanding caused by type, colour or spacing. This flyer aims to reflect the rules "dictated" by Jan Tschichold which placed the typographer as the main person responsible for the clarity and simplicity of the text, at a time when this had not yet been established.

.(ponto)

".(ponto)" [ translated to ".(dot)" ], fiction adapted from Orson Welles' film F for Fake (1973), explores a world without fiction. In the year 2176, 150 years after the disappearance of fiction, society is radically transformed. It is based on tangible facts and truths, and function and effectiveness govern people's way of life. The project results in a 3D representation experience that describes this world from an immersive perspective. The exhibition of this fictional world aims to reflect on the consequences of the absence of fiction and its role in our reality. Posters about the Human Rights

In one of the undergraduate exercises, we were asked to create two versions of a poster (one static and one animated, lasting about 10 seconds) about one of the human rights of our choice. I chose the universal right to education because I consider it to be one of the most important for creating a more equal world.

Project Lancers

Lancers, a traditional and famous brand in the national wine community, proposed to the 2018-21 Communication Design students the creation of a special summer edition, a change in the external visual appearance of the bottle that would translate into a rejuvenation of the brand in order to reach a younger target audience. The request was to create an identical design between the bottles used (Rosé and White wines), in which only the color scheme varied between them, ensuring at the same time that the historical importance of the brand was maintained. This design alludes to bunches of grapes, which in the summer context alludes to inflatable balls, which leave the drink uncovered.

A manifesto by random international

"We believe that raw simplicity communicates complex ideas best." This was the motto for the folder among several that the manifesto has. I chose this as the main sentence because I believe that communication should be as easy as possible, in general: communication is the driving force behind progress. This leaflet is presented with a primary color palette in CMYK with overlaying typographic spots in magenta, cyan and yellow halftone. This way, the sentence is also expressed in a visual and practical way, not limited to communicating ideas only through text.

X.ATO

One of the projects I enjoyed doing the most! About the Communication Design project "Spirit of Independence", which aimed to create a special edition of a publication created by us. The theme was music and design as drivers of social attitude (see for example the disco community). Made in collaboration with my colleagues and friends Maria Oliveira and Sofiya Voyevoda, we chose Portuguese intervention music, very present in the culture of our country. From Zeca Afonso to Estraca, from guitar songs to hip-hop, this special edition takes a look back at protest music, music that means so much to so many Portuguese people. The absolute freedom

The animation for the typographic composition was based on the typographic composition of Marinnetti's quote “By the imagination without strings I mean the absolute freedom of images or analogies (...)”. I focused on the great freedom that Dadaism - and, in a broader sense, typography - offers the artist as a motive for the exercise. The excerpt “the absolute freedom” is the highlight of the quote and the contrast between the initial and final parts of the GIF, in terms of color, typography, speed and positioning. The animation gains a faster and looser rhythm to allude to the evolution of typography with the Dadaist movement of the time.

IULBI

This project, which we call "IULBI", initially emerged from wanting to explore the topic of Implants for biohacking. After some brainstorming, we decided to move on to the speculative design of a visual simulator of personal evolution, as faithful as possible, and to which we associated a visualization tool (a smartphone application). I am Jorge,

a designer from Barreiro, found on the Tejo River's south margin. I graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts at ULisboa and am currently studying for a master's degree in Contemporary Typographic and Editorial Practices.

I particularly enjoy Web Design, Image Editing and Editorial Design. In each project I take part in, my main goal is to create something that best meets the needs of the end user.

I really enjoy humor, sports (I've done athletics, swimming, basketball, among others), socializing with friends and being a knowledgeable person. I also enjoy the audiovisual area, namely films with a strong aesthetic component, and photography. Also, a big fan of the music scene!

What I've already done

During my undergraduate degree and also during the master's degree that am currently studying, I had the opportunity to explore different areas of Design, which allowed me to acquire knowledge and create very distinct projects. This way, I'm able to unlock new approaches and new interpretations of the projects that I undertake, which makes me a professional with extensive knowledge in several areas, like Social Design, Critical Thinking, Audiovisual or Graphic Design!
